Vision
To inculcate in pupils the love for Tamil language and culture through meaningful learning experiences.
Approach
Juying Primary Tamil Department aims to nurture pupils’ love for Tamil language through a variety of learning experiences. We strongly believe in creating a joyful learning environment that promotes the learning of Tamil Language rooted with cultural and moral values.
The department has put in place various programmes and activities to nurture the passion for Tamil language and to develop confident individuals who are able to communicate effectively in the language. Some of these activities and programmes are highlighted below.
Key Programmes
Extensive Reading Programme
To inculcate a love for reading, pupils are encouraged to read Tamil storybooks and subscribe to Sutti Mayil magazines. Opportunities are given to pupils to talk about the books or articles they have read with their peers during curriculum.
Love Tamil! Speak Tamil!
Middle and Upper primary pupils participate in these fortnightly sessions to develop their analytical and critical thinking using Tamil Language. Pupils have the option to create awareness or share ideas and responses to varied global and social issues. This platform provides opportunities for pupils to become eloquent speakers of Tamil language.
Mother Tongue Fortnight
All Primary 1 to Primary 6 pupils will be involved in various cultural and language activities during the MTL Fortnight in Term 3. These activities consist of storytelling, story creation and talent showcase competitions as well as playing language games. All the activities aim to instill a love of learning the Tamil language in the pupils and to enhance their language competency in addition to promoting the appreciation of the Indian culture.
P4 MTL Cultural Camp
Every year, our Primary 4 pupils are exposed to activities related to the Indian culture. These activities help to promote appreciation for the Indian culture.
MTL Learning Journeys
Pupils from different levels go on learning journeys, which are conducted in their respective MTL. During these learning journeys, pupils will be given the platform to interact with teachers and gain new knowledge and contextual vocabularies in MTL too. These learning journeys provide good opportunities for the students to express their personal experiences during classroom discussions. They were able to build good rapport with the public and at the same time learn to respect others.
