PAL
Programme for Active Learning (PAL)
Programme for Active Learning (PAL) is a major initiative to address the need for greater emphasis on non-academic programmes for all P1 and P2 pupils. It consists of modules of activities in two broad areas:
- Sports & Games and Outdoor Education,
- Performing Arts (Dance, Drama & Music) and Visual Arts,
which are carried out within the PE, Art, Music and English curriculum time
PAL is one of the recommendations of the Primary Education Review and Implementation (PERI) Committee to raise primary education to a new level, focusing more on engaged learning and teaching the whole child via a strong teacher and pupil relationship, and equipping our young with the necessary skills and values to thrive in a fast-changing and globalised future.
Approach
Broadly, the purpose of PAL is three-fold:
- To provide pupils with broad exposure and experiences through fun and varied activities in Sports & Games and Outdoor Education, Performing Arts and Visual Arts
- To facilitate the well-rounded development of pupils in the five broad learning domains of physical, cognitive, social, aesthetics and moral
- To provide varied avenues for pupils to develop social emotional competencies
Characteristics of PAL Modules
To achieve the learning outcomes of PAL, the modules of Sports & Games and Outdoor Education, Performing Arts and Visual Arts are designed such that they are:
- Experiential
- Fun and enjoyable
- Encompass learning in a creative way
- Provide opportunities for children to create
- Incorporate values education and social emotional learning
