Internationalisation
Vision
To develop a deep sense of belonging to Singapore and to inculcate global awareness among pupils.
Programme
Overseas Immersion Programme
Pupils are provided opportunities to expand their horizon beyond Singapore and develop a sense of belonging to Singapore and to appreciate their way of life. In March, the primary 5 pupils were brought on a 3D2N Cultural immersion programme to Malacca. The trip aims to:
- Prepare our pupils for the challenges of a globalised world;
- Create opportunities for our pupils to appreciate and understand Malay culture through Malacca;
- Learn about Malay architecture, agriculture, customs and traditions; and to;
- Broaden the experience of our pupils so that they can appreciate Singapore’s growth, development and constraints.
International School Visits
The school also welcomes International Schools to visit us and allow them to benefit from the cultural immersion in our school. Our close partner school, Thailand Prayaprasert Suntrasai School, visited us annually since 2012. The many interaction opportunities among pupils and teachers from both schools, provide authentic and exciting experiences that develop important life skills such as communication and cultural literacy to facilitate understanding and friendship.
International Students Integration
Vision
A cohesive school community where International Students have a positive experience through forging emotional ties with Singapore and where local students develop enduring friendship with International Students to cultivate global awareness.
Approach
The school adopts a proactive approach to ensure integration of International Students happens at 4 levels. There are namely,
- Personal level: integration of daily routines
- Immediate circle level: interaction with local students
- Community level: integration of contributions
- Nation level: embracing Singapore’s values
Parents of International Students and local students play an integral role in this approach where they model and lead the way in interaction. Opportunities are created by the school for parents to participate in activities organized for integration. The National Education commemorative events are key platforms where such planned interaction takes place. Besides these platforms, the daily interactions of International Students with local students in common school experiences reinforce the planned integration efforts.
Programme
Programmes for integration generally take on 3 focus areas. They include embracing friendships, embracing culture and feeling the Singapore heartbeat.
In embracing friendships, Primary 1 and Primary 5 International Students are matched with local students for intentional interaction to take place. Through such interaction, students learn more about each other’s culture and practices.
In embracing culture, new International Students and Primary 1 International Students are assigned to a local student buddy to participate in learning journeys or activities. Such platforms provide opportunities to build friendships and forge enduring ties.
In feeling the Singapore heartbeat, parents of International Students are invited to join the school in national celebrations or community festivals to create common experiences, from which understanding and ties are forged.
