Our 6A Approach – 6 Key Principles of Effective Teaching & Learning
Applied & Integrated – Teachers provide opportunities for students to make meaningful interdisciplinary connections and apply their learning in meaningful contexts. This helps them appreciate the relevance and value of what they are learning.
Authentic Learning – Teachers seek to provide learning experiences that allow students to construct knowledge and investigate problems in contexts that are real, relevant and meaningful to them.
Active Exploration – Teachers adopt creative learning strategies to make lessons come to life because students learn best by doing and exploring. The students can better understand and remember skills and concepts learnt through participation, exploration and experimentation involving real-life objects and experiences.
Academic Rigour – Whilst teachers inject fun, they ensure there is academic rigour. They seek to extend the students’ learning beyond the subject disciplines in depth and breadth. In the process, they develop higher level thinking skills, intellectual depth and attitudes for self-directed learning.
Association with Others – Teachers design lessons to allow for collaborative learning among students. This is to facilitate discussions among students so that they can build on one another’s ideas. This will also promote social and interpersonal skills as students learn to work together in harmony.
Assessment Practices – Teachers design assessments with clarity of purpose, to provide students and themselves with feedback to address learning gaps and improve teaching practices. The assessments emphasise the development of skills and values, as well as the acquisition of knowledge to enable students to build greater confidence and develop a stronger desire to learn.
