Education and Career Guidance
Education and Career Guidance (ECG) is about equipping pupils with the necessary knowledge, skills and values to make informed decisions at each key education stage for successful transition from school to further education or work, and hence to manage their career pathways and lifelong learning throughout their lives. Through ECG, social emotional competencies and qualities of proactivity, adaptability and resilience are developed to prepare pupils for the 21st Century.
To provide opportunities for pupils to develop career awareness, self-awareness of strengths and interests and explore educational pathways in Singapore
In exploring pupil’s inclination towards certain occupation and pathways, it would be useful to understand the 8 different types of intelligences.
The ECG portal (www.ecareers.sg) has been developed to engage pupils in career development activities. The professional site within the ECG portal provides resources for teaching, training and development, programme planning, and usage monitoring.
Our pupils went on a learning journey to KidZania on Thursday, 26 May 2016, which aims to
- Inculcate an appreciation for all types of careers and how they contribute to the well-functioning of society through role playing; and
- Equip students with skills and means to positively engage their parents and other career influencers.
The curriculum for Education & Career Guidance (ECG) is delivered during the weekly FTGP lessons. Form teachers use interactive ways to guide pupils to explore their work values, exposing them to over 80 occupations in Singapore and discover their aspirations. Pupils are given opportunities to enrich what they have learnt during ECG day; a yearly event where talks by professionals are held and activities planned for the pupils.
